Bethelsdorp Extension Cricket Club

Bethelsdorp Extension United Cricket Club was established in October 2009. The founder and president of the club is MR E MESHAKA. The inspiration to eastblish a cricket club was initiaited by the youth of the Bethelsdorp Extension 31 area in Port Elizbeth, South Africa. Bethelsdorp Extension United Cricket Club is affilliated to Eastern Province Amateur Cricket Board. The club participated in the 4th league of the Nelson Mandela Bay Cricket Board and finished in the top ten of the 2009/2010 season. The fourth league is played over twenty overs and is very exciting and fast, requiring physical fitness.

The start was not what we wished for with a series of losses before wining our first game of the season against Bloemendal on the 13th December 2009. This was a nail biting finish but we managed to win them with alot of controvasy on their side. This was a remarkable win and was the start of positive things. We set a total of 118 in our 20 overs. Bloemendal lower order batsmen looked as if they were going to do the job for them. We were comfortably infront at the 15th over mark. The game suddenly changed when Ronwyn Baatjies went for an expensive over in his last which was the 17th over. The captain Shaun Houlie came on for his second last over when he bowled a splendid over by taking two wickets and only conceeded three runs. The next over was bowled by his brother Geowandre Houlie whose pace was scarry for Bloemendal, when one of their batsmen was almost sent to Dora Nginza Hospital by a quicky. Shaun came on for the last over and finished the match for us with his accurate bowling and good pace.
